The Automatic Powder Applicator

Powder Applicator

The automatic powder applicator is a compact, economical and efficient way of powdering rubber sheet or extruded tubes. The basis of the machine is a mechanically fluidized bed of powder contained in a steel chamber and agitated by paddles to create a 'dust storm' within the chamber. The powder is then circulated by means of an aspirator system and applied to the sheet or extrudate by power jets. The amount of powder applied is controlled by individual air valves. To keep powder within the chamber, a negative pressure is pulled by an exhauster through self-cleaning filters.

The purpose of a duster is to create a fine film of dust or powder on the surface of the extrudate while the material is still hot. This acts as an anti-tack and reduces the possibility of material sticking together during storage or transport to the next stage of production. There is a range of different types of duster and each are designed to do different tasks. The APA5 has been specifically designed to coat long extruded lengths of rubber tubing or hose. Whereas, the APA12 has been designed with only rubber sheeting in mind as it can powder sheets of 394mm in width. The other machines in the range are specifically sheet powders and can coat sheets of between 604mm to 1220mm. On the sheet machines, powder is applied to both sides of the sheet.

Options available:

  • Power Brush (for sheet machine 604mm and above)
  • Internal and external conveyors
